TAUPO¯ BOWLS REPORT

Taupo & Turangi Weekender - - News - — Bevan Choat

Top Bay of Plenty, Ngongotaha and Taupo¯ lawn bowler Wendy Green in tandem with former dominant Putaruru player Colin Haigh took the major prize in the weekly 2x4x2 pairs on the artificial green at the Harcourt’s Taupo¯ Bowling Club last Thursday. In winning both their games the pair put together 23 points over their two wins.

Tu¯rangi’s Rusty Petterson with Val Wilson won second prize when returning 21 points in their one win/one loss.

Best of the non-winners were evergreen Ray Spencer/Peter Rossall scoring 15 points for third. Vern Hobbs and new promising bowler John Matheson won the drawn prize.

Once again a good turnout of 20 bowlers competed.

Spencer and Matheson were the two bowlers to stake their claim for the Club Captain’s elite bowlers in his ‘wrong bias clique’, where membership continues to expand!

With the season now well under way players should regularly consult the noticeboard for up coming open tournaments notably pairs and triples. In addition names are required for the first three-way club contest between Arawa, Taupo¯ and Tokoroa on October 15. Players wishing to seek selection should enter names on the sheets provided.
