There might be a big question over whether Taupo District Council has disqualified itself from ever building on the Tongariro Domain! In the consultation document that sealed the fate of 72 Lake Terrace the question asked was should 72 Lake Terrace be sold in order to defray costs of building elsewhere “on council owned land”. That was the option that passed, so unless the council can provide proof that they actually have freehold title to land somewhere on the Domain they must have disqualified themselves from building there. If they have no title to land on the Domain, the only way they can build there is if they can in some way legally nullify that consultation document? I believe council’s function on the Domain is management not ownership.
