Have a say on alcohol rules
The community can have a say on a new alcohol control bylaw proposed for the Taupo¯ District.
The existing Bylaw expires on December 18, and changes in legislation require a review. Senior policy advisor Hilary Samuel said the new bylaw was proposing removal or modification of some existing alcohol prohibition areas. This included a reduction in size of the town centre area covered by the permanent weekend alcohol prohibition, and new alcohol prohibition areas, including the main Lake Terrace beach for New Year. Other changes include Council making temporary alcohol prohibitions for large events. Mrs Samuel said the Council wanted community input about the possibility of a permanent alcohol ban at tumuheke Stream. Submissions close on November 2, with hearings on November 19.
