Turnout turns pairs into triples

Taupo & Turangi Weekender - - News -

Last Thursday’s turnout of bowlers at the Harcourt’s Taupo¯ Bowling Club attracted such a large number, including new bowlers and visitors from Australia, that the regular 2x4x2 pairs had to be replaced by a triples tournament.

For the first time since last season the grass green was was used but unfortunately light drizzle that set in late afternoon restricted the action to one complete round.

Skip Tony Corbett with ever-improving director Jan Hopkins and determined lead David Beck won the first prize after scoring a win and 16 points.

Close behind for second prize were consistent Ray Mayal, Australian player John Cosimo and Eleanor Usherwood with 15 points.

Third prize, as the best of the non-winners, went to the skilled Liz Witton/Dot Pope and Di Hartley with nine points, Rusty Pettersen/Peter Sarelius/John Matheson won the fourth prize collecting six points. Alex Hartley/Vivienne Hutchison/Sandra Burrows won the drawn prize.

The turnout of players augurs well for the upcoming open tournaments later this month with already local as well as a number of entries from outside of Taupo¯.

Also ahead is the public open day on October 27.
