Full field for annual senior tennis
The Taupo¯ Tennis Club held its annual Senior Tournament recently with 80 entries from around the North Island and two from Australia making for a full field of competitors in all categories.
The weather played ball and some high-quality senior tennis was on display. For the first time a Super Veterans section was incorporated for the 65+ age group which proved popular.
Local player Andy Mellor won both the Open Men’s section with partner Craig McFall from Auckland, and the Open Mixed Doubles section with partner Karen Cranston from hakune. The Women’s Open section was won by Karen Cranston, and partner Marietta Duffy-Burgess from Tauranga. The Men’s Super-Vets section was won by Sam Ha and Moon Hyun Doh from Auckland, the women’s Super-Vets by Sylvia Wilmshurst and Helena Goodin from Mt Manganui and New Plymouth respectively, and the Super-Vets Mixed Doubles by Sandra Glennie and Malcolm Alexander from Wellington.
The club thanked major sponsors Taupo¯ Funeral Services and Sotheby’s for their support as well as Bottle’O, Waira¯kei Resort and Pak’nSave, Mirror Hairdressing and David Biggs Outdoor Improvements.
Business House and junior tennis is about to get underway for the 2018/2019 season, and senior tennis is played all year around.
