For­mer Taupō-nui-a-tia Col­lege stu­dent Craig Hawke has been ap­pointed to a se­nior role in the Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs and Trade.

Mr Hawke, who was at the school in the early 1980s, was ap­pointed as a per­ma­nent rep­re­sen­ta­tive to the New Zealand per­ma­nent mis­sion to the United Na­tions in New York last Au­gust.

Mr Hawke had worked for the Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs and Trade since 1989, in­clud­ing as act­ing chief ex­ec­u­tive and deputy sec­re­tary, in­ter­na­tional de­vel­op­ment and head of the New Zealand de­vel­op­ment and hu­man­i­tar­ian pro­gramme. His role now is to lead New Zealand’s on­go­ing ef­forts to help make the United Na­tions more ef­fec­tive and rel­e­vant, in­clud­ing the small states and those in the Pa­cific.
