On Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 27 the Taupo¯ Bridge Club hosted its an­nual All­grades 8B tour­na­ment, spon­sored by Forsyth Barr Taupo¯. Lo­cal play­ers wel­comed mem­bers from Thames, Have­lock North, Hast­ings, Hamil­ton, Ro­torua, Mata­mata and Te Aroha. While the at­mos­phere was con­vivial, com­pe­ti­tion was strong and play­ers were evenly chal­lenged right down to the last hand. The over­all win­ners of the day were Doug and Bobby Couch­man from Hast­ings with a score of 61.94 per cent. In sec­ond place were Mike New­ton and Stephen Franks from Tau­ranga with 59.17 per cent. Fur­ther re­sults can be sourced from the club web­site www.taupo­bridge.nz. Thank you to both Forsyth Barr for their spon­sor­ship and lo­cal mem­bers for sup­ply­ing the fab­u­lous food. Mon­day, Oc­to­ber 22 Pairs was won by Estelle Davis and Chris­tine Judd with 70.37 per cent. Colin Light and Adri­enne Re­hioui won the Tues­day Open in N/S with 63.66 per cent and Rose­mary Ritchie and Edna Ni­chol­son won in E/W with 64.18 per cent. Wed­nes­day evening was ses­sion two, of the Cham­pi­onship Pairs, and this week Pam Burry and Peggy Nis­bet came first with 63.54 per cent. Pam Burry and Hazel Mil­liken in N/S won Fri­day’s Jo­ce­lyn Lang­don Tro­phy ses­sion with 65.77 per cent along with Rose­mary Ritchie and Barry Fitzger­ald in E/W with 62.96 per cent.
