May often a month of contrasts

Te Puke Times - - NEWS -

Over the years May has been a month of contrasts when it comes to rainfall in Te Puke.

In May 2018 there were 23 dry days and just 93mm of rain fell throughout the month. That is the smallest May amount since 2009.

May 2008 saw 117mm fall in the first 10 days of the month, but there was no more rain for 21 days.

Despite that small amount of rain in May 2009, the month was notable for a cluster of hailstorms on May 11. There were three separate hail showers during the day, then in the early evening a thunderstorm was accompanied by a deep fall of hail. Maketu¯ was particularly badly hit.

May 2010 saw a huge amount of rainfall, with 353.75mm falling during the month.
