Vol­un­teers dig deep at Lit­tle Waihı¯

More than a dozen peo­ple headed to Lit­tle Waihı es­tu­ary at the week­end to pull out and re­place plants.

With two hours of hard work, the 14 vol­un­teers had cleared a mas­sive pile of rub­bish and ex­posed O some nice soil.

In that soil were planted flaxes, tau­pata and karo on the edge of a sec­tion O and 200 oioi sea rushes along the sea wall. O Bay of Plenty Re­gional Coun­cil pro­vided the plants and the work­ers were re­warded with a bar­be­cue.

The next event planned is in Oc­to­ber and will tar­get pest weeds.
