Pukehina walk to aid cancer cause
The impact of cancer on friends and family prompted the owners of Pukehina’s Hippy Pipi to organise a commemorative walk.
The cancer walk has been organised by Bev Savage and Jude Cuthbert and will take place on Saturday, starting and finishing at the Hippy Pipi.
“We have both been affected by cancer — a friend of my was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and it has impacted hugely on my family,” says Bev.
They decided to organise a cancer walk after they saw news coverage of a similar event in Auckland.
“We’ve had a good response since we put the idea out there and some good sponsorship has come in,” says Bev.
Walkers can register between 9am and 9.50am and are asked to wear pink or blue to tie in with the awareness campaigns for breast cancer and prostate cancer .
There are spot prizes, raffles and a major prize.
Money raised by the walk will go to the New Zealand Cancer Society.
There will be a walk for cancer at Pukehina Beach on Saturday.
