It’s beautiful scenery, and I like the friendly people and relaxed lifestyle. It’s got that small town feeling. You’re only one hour away from a major hospital if you need it. It’s an ideal location; we’ve got access to the city but we’re living in the countryside.

My wife’s kitchen. She’s Indian so I get all these Indian dishes. I like the eggplant dish called Baingan.

Playing bridge at the Kerikeri Bridge Club. It’s a great game for keeping my mind active. I’m reasonably busy around here looking after the grounds so I don’t get a lot of time for other things.

A chap I used to work with at Statistics NZ, Eric Pennington. He was always willing to help people and has a terrific temperament, even under pressure.

Paihia beach as the sun is rising...it’s magical.
