Art showcase to amaze

- STAFF REPORTER

Entries are being called for the Wearable Arts Extravaganza - a new addition to the Northland arts calendar which promises a visual display of designs and an array of entertainment.

Many have already entered, but people have until July 17 to sign up.

The event is open to adults and Northland school students from year 6 upwards. This event, hosted by the Dargaville Arts Association, will be held in the Dargaville War Memorial Hall on September 15-16.

Co-organiser Cheryl Carmichael says ‘‘It’s an amazing chance to have a lot of fun, let your dreams and imagination go wild and design a costume that will be a show stopper.’’

There are four categories to enter, Moananui (great oceans); Living off the Land (farming); Our natural environment (nature) and Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. There are no major restrictions on design apart from being wearable through both nights entertainment.

A Supreme Award for both the High School and Years 6, 7, 8 entries will be awarded, along with an ‘Overall Winner’ chosen from all categories and age levels and a People’s Choice Award.

Doors open at 7.30pm, and the show starts at 8pm.

Tickets go on sale from mid July. For entry forms and more information email dargaville@wearablearts.nz
