BOGGY BERMS

The Bay Chronicle - - CONVERSATIONS - Murray Gee Kerikeri

I am fully supportive of council to have dog lovers keep their dogs ‘‘on leash’’. Our property borders the Kerikeri River which is part of the Te Araroa Trail.....a public walking track. Many people walk their dogs off leash here.

The entrance to the river track is on the corner of Waipapa Rd and Waitotara Drive through the public reserve. Many dog owners see it as their right not to enter through the reserve, but to walk across private land.

There is a council sign at the reserve entrance showing dogs on a leash. However, dog owners seem oblivious to any instruction. We take pride in our street, but dog people park on the mown grass verges and bog up the berms.

Many readers want better access for dogs in the Far North.
