WINSTON PETERS, NZ FIRST

The Bay Chronicle - - FRONT PAGE -

A huge issue facing Northland is security on our streets, for our homes and businesses. Little has changed since NZ First revealed reported criminal offences in Northland had leapt 66 percent from 11,593 in 2008 to over 19,274 last year. Northland police continue to struggle due to lack of resources and staff having to work excessive hours. Of Northland’s 21 stations, only seven had more than a single officer on continuous duty over a six week period earlier this year. Burglars in Northland know they stand a 97 percent chance of getting away with their crimes. We will combat crime by lowering the age of criminal responsibility so we can deal to at-risk youth earlier. We’ll have 1800 more frontline police.
