It is heartening to hear that the new coalition government is going to be looking to the regions for worthy targets to spend resources to improve our lot.
I would like to highlight a high need, relatively low cost, seriously important issue that needs to be addressed.
The walkway in Kerikeri has improved walkers safety with a great footpath. The walkway is really not satisfactory for cyclists due to the high number of driveway crossings adjacent to hedging.
For a cyclist moving at even 10 kmh, this arrangement is unsafe. However the greatest risk to a bicyclist riding between Paihia and Kerikeri is on State Highway 10 between Puketona Junction and Bulls Gorge.
There is a short, about 1/2 km of roading or lack of it, on a curve with limited visibility, no shoulder and absolutely no pavement at all outside of the white line.
A road cyclist has no choice but to be in the same place as trucks and cars moving at 100kmh around what is in effect a blind corner. This 1/2 km of unsafe road is a problem that needs to be addressed.
It could avert a tragedy. I would like to praise our local supermarket, New World, on having a bin in their lobby where we can drop off plastic wrapping to be recycled, and also one for used dental products.
That is just amazing. Thank you so much for helping us reduce general household waste .
Too bad there is nobody around who will collect old household batteries. Those poisonous products unfortunately still end up in landfills. I am still hoping... I don’t see why others will want their wage increased. Perhaps they should try living on a wage of $15.75 per hour. It is only fair that we all have a reasonable wage to live on. Too many under privileged people cause a whole raft of problems. If you don’t like the price, don’t buy it.
Much of what we buy is unnecessary stuff anyway. We can all pay a little more and help our fellow man have a reasonable wage. Have a heart people, welcome some fairness.
