TAKING HAZARDS OUT OF PLAY

The Cut - - PLAY LIKE A PRO -

Sometimes there might be danger off the tee which you dearly want to avoid, perhaps a fairway bunker or water hazard that is in range of your driver.

Whatever it might be, in these situations think about how to take that danger out of play; usually this means laying up short of it.

Pick a club which you know cannot reach the danger, and while you might have a club or two longer into the green for your approach, that’s better than playing three into the green or three off the tee because you’ve had to take a penalty or struggled to get out of a steep fairway trap.
