Kiwi journalist ‘assaulted by pro-Russians’

-

A KIWI journalist claims to have been beaten up near his home in Ukraine.

Former Southland Times reporter Jared Morgan, who has been working as a journalist in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev since 2011, is reportedly in hospital recovering from head injuries from the apparent assault.

On his Facebook page, Morgan posted a picture on March 23 of a head-wound bearing eight stitches, telling friends he was pushed down stairs by Russian or pro-Russians the night before.

"It was argument with Russians or Pro-Russians, now in hospital," he wrote online.

Doctors suspected broken ribs and he said he felt like he had been ‘‘hit by a train . . . I can hardly move".

Morgan said he had to remain in hospital for two weeks to recover from concussion.

Local journalist Andre Alexin wrote on his Facebook page that Morgan was severely beaten near his home by men who did not like his pro-Ukrainian views, news site Telekritika reported.
