‘Not enough new evidence’ to charge Rewa again

The Dominion Post - - Politics-News -

An official report clearing Teina Pora of a 1992 rape and murder does not provide the ‘‘exceptional circumstances’’ required to charge the man suspected of committing the killing alone, Police Commissioner Mike Bush says. Bush said police accepted Pora was innocent and had looked at prosecuting Malcolm Rewa for Susan Burdett’s murder, but did not have enough new evidence to lift a 1998 stay on prosecution after two previous attempts to convict Rewa of murder ended in hung juries.
