Two fires in cafe, bar

-

A bar and a cafe in Wellington were hit by two separate fires yesterday. The Fire Service was called to Little Beer Quarter on Edward St about 11.45am, with four trucks needed to put the fire. Co-owner Stacey Walsh said the Fire Service had said it was possible the blaze had been smouldering inside one of the building’s pillars for a couple of days. The bar had been about to open yesterday when black smoke had billowed out. Later in the afternoon, a fire started in a cooking ventilation system at One Fat Bird cafe on Karori Rd in Karori. Fire communications shift supervisor Belinda Beets said the flames had been extinguished by 4.30pm. ‘‘There is a flat above the cafe, but everyone was evacuated and nobody has been hurt.’’
