Health Min­istry to fo­cus its pri­or­i­ties for end-of-life care

Health Min­is­ter Jonathan Cole­man has launched a re­view and ac­tion plan into na­tional pal­lia­tive care ser­vices. ‘‘When fac­tor­ing in our grow­ing and age­ing pop­u­la­tion, re­cently pub­lished re­search pre­dicted that over the next 20 years the num­ber of peo­ple need­ing pal­lia­tive care will in­crease 51 per cent, from 24,680 in 2016 to more than 37,000 in 2038,’’ he said. The min­istry’s re­view would fo­cus on im­prov­ing ser­vices over the next three to five years.
