Bain whodunit

Re the Bain case, Ronald Thomas writes (Letters, July 26), ‘‘whether or not they were all murdered is the essence of the argument that has continued ever since’’.

One has to wonder why that is. To put it another way, if Robin Bain was found to have his son Stephen’s blood on his clothes, if a pristine set of his fingerprints had been found in blood on the rifle, if he had bruises on his face and torso, if his bloody gloves had been found under Stephen’s bed, if his glasses had been found in, say, the lounge, with a damaged frame, if a lens from those glasses had been found in Stephen’s room, would anyone have believed David Bain could have been the perpetrator?
