Cycleway support

-

Gerry Cunneen (Oct 25) wonders why the Wellington City Council is ’pandering to the cycling brigade’. Does he not realise that within many a motorist lies a frustrated cyclist? Till now the roads have been too unsafe for any but the most intrepid cyclist. Children are being ferried to school and elsewhere because of unsafe cycling conditions. And what about climate change? Both cycling and public transport are excellent ways of reducing carbon emissions.

Motorists have regarded it as their God-given right to park near their destination. But roads were built as thoroughfares, not parking lots.

It is up to the council and businesses to provide sufficient off-street parking. Bring on the cycleways.
