Govt com­mits $5m in funds to launch so­cial enterprise

Com­mu­nity and Vol­un­tary Sec­tor Min­is­ter Peeni Henare has put $5 mil­lion into grow­ing New Zealand’s so­cial enterprise sec­tor. The fund­ing will be ad­min­is­tered over four years by the Depart­ment of In­ter­nal Af­fairs, which has part­nered with A¯ kina Foun­da­tion to ex­pand New Zealand’s so­cial enterprise mar­ket. ‘‘So­cial en­ter­prises make a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion to our com­mu­ni­ties by rein­vest­ing their prof­its to meet so­cial, en­vi­ron­men­tal and eco­nomic need,’’ said Henare.
