Park as­sault charges laid

A 14-year-old has been charged over the vi­o­lent as­sault of an­other teenager in a Flaxmere, Hast­ings, play­ground.

De­tec­tive con­sta­ble Steve Leonard said a 14-year-old boy ap­peared in the Hast­ings District Youth Court on Mon­day charged with wound­ing with in­tent to cause griev­ous bod­ily harm and theft, in re­la­tion to an as­sault on a 14-yearold vic­tim. Po­lice are still search­ing for more peo­ple be­lieved to be in­volved in the at­tack.

The vic­tim was as­saulted at a play­ground off Scott Drive about 2.15am on Oc­to­ber 15.

Be­fore the as­sault, the vic­tim had been at a party, and had re­cently left. Neigh­bours and guests at the party heard noises from the play­ground and went to in­ves­ti­gate. They saw three peo­ple stand­ing over the vic­tim who was on the ground in­jured, but the three quickly left the scene.
