Shock over Winery Tour’s cancellation
Two venues that were set to host The Winery Tour are ‘‘shocked’’ and ‘‘disappointed’’ by its sudden cancellation.
Promoters of the 10-stop tour in January and February announced on Tuesday that all shows were cancelled due to ‘‘unforeseen circumstances.’’ Any tickets purchased will be refunded.
The tour was set to feature musicians Betty-Anne Monga, Hollie Smith, Che Fu, Annie Crummer and Jason Kerrison, alongside Tami Neilson.
For some of the wineries on the tour, its cancellation has come as a shock.
Fans have also expressed disappointment on social media.
Neudorf Vineyards in Upper Moutere near Nelson was set to be the first stop on the 10-venue tour on January 19. The winery has been a tour regular since the show’s first iteration in 2007.
Neudorf owner Judy Finn said as a Hollie Smith ‘‘fangirl’’ she was disappointed the tour wasn’t going ahead.
‘‘What a great lineup. It was going to be a huge sort of summer celebration and party. We are disappointed and we just hope it’s not going to be the end of the tour. I’m sure it won’t be.’’
She said the tour’s promoters had been good to work with in the past.
‘‘They’ve been really wonderful to work with, we really enjoy their concert, they do it so well, and it’s great fun. It comes just before our vintage so we’ve got this huge work ahead of us and this is sort of like the celebration.’’
She did not know why the tour had been cancelled.
Helen Wilson, functions and events manager at Ascension Wine Estate in Matakana, was equally in the dark. ‘‘I was as shocked as everyone else,’’ she said.
Ascension Wine Estate has been included on the tour before, and Wilson said it was always a good night.
‘‘We’re definitely disappointed because it’s one of our biggest nights, and it’s normally a really easy one to run, too.’’
In 2014, a Palmerston North show on the winery tour was cancelled due to ‘‘unforeseen circumstances’’.
Promoters Brent Eccles and Campbell Smith did not respond to requests for comment.
The Winery Tour 2018 was set to feature Betty-Anne Monga, Hollie Smith, Che Fu, Annie Crummer and Jason Kerrison.
