Teenagers fire at police

-

Teenagers shooting in the backyard of a Hamilton home then turned their fire at police. Officers were called to Ross Cres in Fairfield around 10.20am yesterday after reports of people firing an air-rifle at a back fence. Officers arriving to check out the call were then fired upon, said Senior Sergeant Simon Cherry said. ‘‘An officer going into the address heard the shots – no-one was injured.’’ No shots struck the officers. Police set up cordons around the home. Two teenage boys emerged from the house shortly after and handed themselves in. Police arrested three males aged 15, 16 and 17. They will be charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. ‘‘It’s very disappointing when police officers are trying to do their job without having to deal with young men firing pellets at them.’’
