Train, truck in collision
A train collided with a truck in Napier yesterday.
A police spokesperson said emergency services were called to Breakwater Rd, near Napier Port, at 3.18pm. The Weatherell truck was crossing the rail lines as it entered the port when the train struck the right-hand side of the truck’s cab.
The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, said a St John Ambulance spokeswoman.
A towtruck was called to remove the truck. A Fire and Emergency spokesman said two fire engines responded.
A Weatherell Transport spokeswoman did not wish to comment.
A Hawke’s Bay District Health Board spokeswoman said the driver was in a stable condition.
