Charge after fire

A 15-year-old has been charged with arson following a fire at the North City shopping centre in Porirua on Friday. Police said the teenager was arrested on Tuesday in relation to the fire at Kmart. He appeared in the Youth Court yesterday. The fire started after a shelf displaying pinatas was set alight in the pantry supplies area. It was contained to a small area and was put out by firefighters. Shoppers were evacuated as a precaution but no one was injured.
