Challenges facing the Tukituki electorate are all solvable if we maintain our strong economic momentum. Regardless of people’s political affiliations, it is hard to ignore the fact that the National Government has done a great job in getting New Zealand through the global recession and the Christchurch and Kaikoura earthquakes in such good financial shape. We have a thriving economy, strong job growth and significant tax cuts from next April if National is reelected. My local priorities if elected are: ‘P’ is a scourge on society and we need to declare war on it. National has just announced an $86m package to tackle gang and organised crime and extra resources for addiction services.

Housing: We simply need to build more houses. This will involve councils, central government and private developers. National has committed to 6000 new state houses over the next three years. I am hopeful Hastings will receive around 100 of these from next year.

Water: A way forward to address all things water; ensuring we have safe drinking water, providing environmentally friendly water storage solutions to manage climate change and protecting our most precious resource for future generations. I will fight the current Water Conservation Order and Labour’s unfair water tax.
