Oh Tommy boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling.

This Saturday, in what I can only describe as an act of pure Ka¯piti-ness, we will see Thomas the bisexual goose laid to rest in a coffin beside his beloved goose boyfriend Henry.

In case you missed our stories over the years, Thomas, a Waimanu Lagoon resident, became a celeb after shacking up with Henry, and later with Henry and Henrietta.

It got a little confusing there in the end, but on Saturday Thomas will be piped to his grave in a public ceremony from 2pm. There will be poetry, and storytelling.

It’s times like this that I for one cannot think of another part of the country that shares the Ka¯piti Coast’s singular character.

Whether it’s geese, or people, we’re one of a kind. Ka¯piti, don’t you ever change. — Joel Maxwell, Senior journalist
