Friends of Horoeka recognised

The dedication of Lower Hutt’s community volunteers was celebrated at the recent Hutt City Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards.

Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace said the awards were a fantastic acknowledgment of the contribution volunteers made to the city.

‘‘Our local community group volunteers are passionate about their community, about people, the environment and making a positive difference. It’s important we acknowledge just how important their work is to our city.’’

Wellington Airport CEO Steve Sanderson said the dedication of all the winners stood out but there was one clear winner.

‘‘Congratulations to all the winners from Lower Hutt, especially the Supreme Winners, the Friends of Horoeka Scenic Reserve,’’ he said.

‘‘We were impressed by the many thousands of volunteer hours dedicated to restoring this important reserve area for the community.’’
