Waitahinga trails
Whanganui Tramping Club members Harold Stimpson and
Tom Luff shared a 50-year passion for tramping in bush and hills surrounding Whanganui. So, it’s only fitting that two ridges on the beautiful Waitahinga Trails should be named after them.
Most of the walking trails are under native forest canopy. Longer walks follow a fence line built from local totara more than 100 years ago. There are various walks that cater for different fitness levels. The Chicken Run is an easy loop walk that takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour, through a picnic dell and with good lookouts over Whanganui and Taranaki backcountry. The walk to the Waitahinga Dam takes about 4 hours. Rangitatau East Road (Junction Road), Kai Iwi.
