Christmas letterbox competition launched
Cut the arms from sweaters in half lengthwise and sew a seam in each to create tubes to fit stool legs. Turn ends under 1 inch and hem. Slide onto legs. It’s the first week of summer and Christmas is right in our sights.
To spread a little joy in the neighbourhood, there’s a new competition under way for everyone who loves a spot of Christmas cheer.
Neighbourly has teamed up with Mike Pero Real Estate to encourage us to decorate our letterboxes.
Mike Pero says the competition is a fun way for Kiwis to brighten up their neighbourhoods for Christmas – and to help Santa find his way.
‘‘Our letterboxes are blank canvases just waiting for a clever makeover and what better time of year to transform them than at Christmas,’’ he said.
‘‘We’re excited about seeing colourful creations from across the country – letterboxes lit up like Christmas trees, scenes from the North Pole – maybe even Santa’s sleigh?’’
Neighbourly co-founder Casey Eden says they’re hoping to see thousands of New Zealand streets lined with colourful Christmas letterboxes.
‘‘This is a competition that’s really easy to get involved in.
‘‘Plus it’s a great conversation starter with your neighbour,’’ he says.
‘‘If you don’t have some tinsel lying around your house just pop down to your local Christmas store or The Warehouse and find something to light up your letterbox.’’
A selection of the best entries will go forward to a nationwide poll, so we’ll all get to vote for the letterbox we love the best.
But it’s best to get your skates on and decorate that letterbox this weekend.
Mike Pero’s Christmas Letterbox competition runs to December 11.
