Tennis ‘Have a Go’ day serves up plenty of winners

-

There was plenty of spring sunshine bathing tennis courts across the district this month for free primary and intermediate coaching sessions.

The Nelson Bays Tennis Association primary and intermediate ‘‘Have a Go’’ 2016 open day took place at 11 clubs across the region.

Tennis association regional coordinator Ali McQuillan said 44 schools from Tapawera to Golden Bay were invited to take part in the event.

It was the fifth year that all clubs had come together to promote junior tennis across the region over the same weekend.

The initiative had grown each year, McQuillan said.

Schools supported the event, which enabled pupils to try out tennis with their school mates before making a commitment to the sport during the summer season.

Wilson had supported the open days with a tennis racket and accessories to the value of $100 for each club.

Last Saturday, the lucky recipients got together with their club coaches for the presentation ceremony at Tasman Tennis Club.
