Hotshots offering kids chance to warm to tennis
Tennis Hot Shots in schools programme and ‘‘Have a Go’’ open day is a great way of getting children ready for the summer tennis season.
Tennis Hot Shots has taken New Zealand by storm, the programme is revolutionising junior tennis.
It involves using smaller courts, lighter racquets and lowcompression balls that do not bounce too high.
This makes learning tennis fun and easy for primary school-aged children and enables them to start rallying and having fun right from their first lesson.
The Tennis Hot Shots in schools programme is in its third year in our region, with 37 primary schools taking part this term.
From being part of this programme schools are able to link into coaching programmes, an inter-school league and join in with the annual ‘‘Have a Go’’ open day across all clubs in the region.
Each school receives an hour of free coaching at their local club on September 23, an ideal way to finish off the Tennis Hot Shots schools programme and get ready for the tennis season.
Eleven clubs open their doors and their courts to school children and their families offering them the chance to join in a session dedicated to their school.
