Skat­ing suc­cess for mother and daugh­ter

Mother and daugh­ter skaters Keiko Bamba and Mit­suko Nam en­joyed suc­cess at the re­cent Ocea­nia Artis­tic Cham­pi­onships in Been­leigh, Queens­land.

Nam rep­re­sented New Zealand and com­peted in the ju­nior in­ter­na­tional grade.

She placed sec­ond in the Ocea­nia cat­e­gory in the Ju­nior in­ter­na­tional ladies fig­ures event, and fourth over­all in the ju­nior in­ter­na­tional ladies solo dance event.

She was also a mem­ber of the quar­tet team that placed fourth over­all.

This was her fifth year rep­re­sent­ing New Zealand at the Ocea­nia cham­pi­onships.

Bamba skates in Nel­son but rep­re­sents Ja­pan. This was her 4th year rep­re­sent­ing Ja­pan at the Ocea­nia cham­pi­onships.

She com­peted in the mas­ters in­ter­na­tional fig­ures and mas­ters in­ter­na­tional solo dance events, plac­ing fifth in the fig­ures and sev­enth in solo dance.

Nam said it was ex­cit­ing to at­tend the in­ter­na­tional com­pe­ti­tion.

She said they were able to get in plenty of con­cen­trated train­ing be­fore the com­pe­ti­tion.
