Roll up for circus fun in Richmond
Circus fun is on the cards in central Richmond this month including a free screening of the musical film The Greatest Showman.
The movie, to be shown at Sundial Square, is the centrepiece of Take Two, a free community event organised by Tasman District Council and Richmond Unlimited on May 12.
Council community partnerships officer Lani Evans said Take Two would bring all the fun of the circus including acrobatics, stilt walkers, jugglers and a magic show – as well as workshops for people to try out some of the skills on display. Richmond eateries would have food available to buy.
‘‘It’s going to be a huge amount of fun and we’re very excited to be able to screen The Greatest Showman,‘‘ Evans said. ‘‘Take Two is a collaboration between the council and Richmond Unlimited to bring the community together and support Queen St businesses. Bring your deckchair and rug up for a night of magic under the stars.’’
Queen St has been undergoing a multimilliondollar upgrade below and above ground since February 7, 2017.
Take Two follows The First Taste festival in October, to celebrate the completion of part of the upgrade.
Richmond Unlimited events and marketing co-ordinator Charlotte Bidlake said Take Two was a great opportunity to maximise the potential of Sundial Square and the new Queen St layout. ‘‘The seamless footpath lends itself so well to festivals and events,’’ Bidlake said.
‘‘Circus is such a fun theme, too, and will provide warm fuzzies for all ages.’’
* Take Two from 4.30pm7.30pm on Saturday, May 12. Rain day: Sunday, May 13. The Greatest Showman is due to start at 6pm. Free.
