Golden Globes come to Colenso audience

The Napier Mail - - WHAT’S ON - MEGAN HUNT * William Colenso presents The Golden Globes on July 6 and 7, with doors open from 6.45pm and tickets $15 from the school.

The audience will be immersed in William Colenso College’s 2017 production.

The cabaret style show called The Golden Globes runs for two nights at the Napier school this July.

Instead of a traditional production where students are on stage performing a well-known script they worked together with teachers to create the show.

Audience members will attend as if they are going to the Golden Globe event, sitting at round tables with a mix of short performances, featuring acting, singing and dancing related to a range of iconic films.

The cast includes students from Year 9 to 13.

Students TP Matthews,16, Carea McMahon, 17, and Brandon Cudby, 17, will host the event.

Year 13 student Carea became involved with performing arts first through ballet as a child before moving into drama.

‘‘I’ve been dancing since I was three. Mum was a dancer and got me into it.’’

Brandon was the lead in the 2016 production of Dracula.

He said this year’s show would be a more interactive experience for audience members.

‘‘I think [this production] is going to be good,’’ Brandon said.

TP became interested in performing arts through his involvement in music classes, before a teacher pushed him to take part in the school’s productions.
