The un­likely choice of Ar­gen­tinian com­mu­nist guer­rilla leader Ernesto “Che” Gue­vara, hero of the Cuban rev­o­lu­tion, as the face of the new €1 postage stamp in Ire­land is stok­ing con­tro­versy. Gue­vara’s fa­ther, Ernesto Gue­vara Lynch, was a civil en­gi­neer of Ir­ish de­scent — and the iconic red and black print of Che was pro­duced by an Another sum­mit, another dog. Rus­sian Pres­i­dent Vladimir Putin added a puppy to the lit­ter of ca­nine com­pan­ions he’s re­ceived as gifts. This one is a Cen­tral Asian Shep­herd called Verny be­stowed by the Pres­i­dent of Turk­menistan. Putin pre­vi­ously re­ceived a Bul­gar­ian shep­herd named Buffy from Bul­garia’s Premier in 2010 and an Akita named Yume from a Ja­panese of­fi­cial in 2012. He also has been given horses and even a tiger.
