Perfect for school runs, darling

- — Daily Mail

If you fancy winning a game of school run Top Trumps, Lamborghini has the perfect car. Called the Urus, the new fourseat SUV is expected to cost around NZ$350,000, and become one of the fastest family cars on the planet.

Lamborghini won’t take the wraps off the eagerly anticipated new supercar 4x4 for another month, but it has released a teaser clip of a disguised Urus tearing through the desert.

It seems that the Urus won’t just be a Remuera tractor for taking the kids from the front door to the school gates — it’s also capable of ripping through sand dunes thanks to the range of driving modes revealed in the 30-second-long video.

The Urus will be showcased in production-ready trim on December 4, but until then there’s lots to take away from this short preview.

Unconfirmed reports say it will be powered by a turbo-assisted 4-litre V8 engine that should have around 484kW, eclipsing the 447kW Bentley Bentayga but a little short of the ballistic 519kW Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

What the Lamborghini will have is a variety of driving modes that will help it plant all of its horses, no matter what the terrain.

The mode switch shown in the video suggests there will be six different options to choose from, with enticing Italian names: Strada (road), Sport, Corsa (track), Sabbia (sand), Terra (dirt) and Neve (snow).

Eagle-eyed viewers will also spot an advanced four-wheel steering system.

Lamborghini is aiming to follow in the steps of Bentley with the Urus by offering a family-friendly SUV packed with drama and exclusivity. Interest in the new model is already incredibly high.

With the launch being just a matter of weeks away, this could be the last significant new-model reveal of 2017.
