Gambling ads

-

Our society is constantly being challenged by double standards. Many readers will be aware the TAB have started advertising their gambling services on TV, including during prime time. We have very clear restrictions on the advertising of alcohol and tobacco, yet the guidelines for gambling advertising would seem to be much looser.

There is absolutely no question gambling is a serious issue in our society. Even more so, when it is considered those on a lower socio-economic background are more likely to engage in gambling, which can be very addictive, having the power to destroy families, relationships and even lives.

As horse racing is now receiving significant government funding, and as the TAB are directly associated with the horse racing industry, does it now mean that gambling is endorsed by the state. Something is not quite right in all this.
