Belgians honour NZ fallen
A Passchendaele commemoration at Auckland Museum yesterday morning was a chance for Belgians to show appreciation for those who lost their lives. Some 846 New Zealand soldiers were killed in Belgium 101 years ago on that day. Lode Notredame, who’s from Passchendaele, said people who grew up near those battlefields haven’t forgotten the Kiwi soldiers. Notredame said Belgians are very thankful to the soldiers. He says New Zealanders came from the end of the Earth and lost many men fighting for Belgium’s freedom. Notredame said yesterday was a way of saying thank you.
