Road will ‘save lives’

National says its plan to extend the Waikato Expressway will save lives. The 16 kilometre, four-lane motorway will connect the Cambridge section of the Waikato Expressway to the intersection of State Highway 1 and State Highway 29. It’s estimated it would cost $570 million. Announcing the election promise, National leader Todd Muller said the road was extraordinarily dangerous. He said he had travelled from Tauranga into that part of the world many times and it was “a heart-in-your-mouth moment when you turn into the traffic”.
