The Man­gonui JMB rugby draw for this Satur­day is, Un­der 7s, all games start 9.30am: in the coun­try be­cause com­mu­ni­ca­tion for the kids most at risk is of­ten dif­fi­cult and they don’t know who they can talk to. “As sports ad­min­is­tra­tors, coaches and referees we can make a dif­fer­ence. We have reg­u­lar con­tact with teenagers play­ing sport through­out the sea­son,” he said, not­ing SAFEtalk is a pro­gramme de­signed to give peo­ple the aware­ness to recog­nise the signs of kids in trou­ble, work through how to en­gage with youth and pro­vide the tools to point them in the right di­rec­tion as well as giv­ing them ac­cess to peo­ple they can talk to pro­fes­sion­ally. Cole­man said the SAFEtalk work­shop was run very suc­cess­fully in the Far North ear­lier in the year and the plan now was to de­liver it to the Whangarei com­mu­nity.
