Solid turnout for bowls tour­na­ment

A solid turnout of 19 teams con­tested the Geard’s Funeral Home Open ti­tle at the Cooper’s Beach Bowling Club at the end of May.

The an­nual mixed triples event on Tues­day, May 29, at­tracted 19 en­tries from Rus­sell, Kerik­eri, Far North RSA and host bowling clubs.

Al­though the weather was fine, there was an icy chill in the air let­ting ev­ery­one know that win­ter was on its way.

Re­sults were Barry Al­li­son, Alan Thom, Jill Phillips (RSA) 1, Graeme Hunt, El­laine Al­bury, Sue Hunt (Keri) 2, De­nis Hai­ley, Stu Ped­er­sen, with first year bowler Richard Row­botham (Coop) 3; while the lucky team draw was won by Norma Olsen, Nigel Les­lie, Jeff Bell (Coop).

Thanks went to the gen­er­ous spon­sor and all who as­sisted on the day.

COM­ING UP. Brian Wil­son and Judy Von Sturmer memo­ri­als, men’s and women’s open 2x4x2 events on Tues­day, June 12. Or­gan­is­ers said dress is mufti and en­try for each event is limited to 16 teams per gen­der, so early en­try was en­cour­aged.
