To­tal Pests at Cooper’s Beach

Kiwi Coast and the North­land Re­gional Coun­cil will host a‘To­tal Pests’ work­shop’ at Cooper’s Beach on Wed­nes­day July 25 (9am to 4pm).

The morn­ing ses­sion will of­fer an in­tro­duc­tion to plant pests, with a more in-depth ses­sion in the af­ter­noon, and an in­tro­duc­tion to trap­ping meth­ods for the most com­mon an­i­mal pests in be­tween.

NRC biose­cu­rity of­fi­cer Mike Knight, Kiwi Coast Mid North co­or­di­na­tor An­drew Men­tor and John Haines (Friends of Rangikapiti) will talk about Kiwi Coast and how it can be sup­ported, ba­sic pest an­i­mal be­hav­iour and ecol­ogy, set­ting the likes of Timms pos­sum traps, SnapE rat traps and DoC 200 stoat traps, com­mon house­hold items that can make ef­fec­tive lures, tips for catch­ing more pests in the traps al­ready be­ing used.

If there is suf­fi­cient in­ter­est, a work­shop ded­i­cated to trap­ping will be or­gan­ised later in the year.
