Total Pests at Cooper’s Beach
Kiwi Coast and the Northland Regional Council will host a‘Total Pests’ workshop’ at Cooper’s Beach on Wednesday July 25 (9am to 4pm).
The morning session will offer an introduction to plant pests, with a more in-depth session in the afternoon, and an introduction to trapping methods for the most common animal pests in between.
NRC biosecurity officer Mike Knight, Kiwi Coast Mid North coordinator Andrew Mentor and John Haines (Friends of Rangikapiti) will talk about Kiwi Coast and how it can be supported, basic pest animal behaviour and ecology, setting the likes of Timms possum traps, SnapE rat traps and DoC 200 stoat traps, common household items that can make effective lures, tips for catching more pests in the traps already being used.
If there is sufficient interest, a workshop dedicated to trapping will be organised later in the year.
