One arrest — more to come?

Police have charged a Kaitaia teenager with last month’s armed robbery of the Okaihau Liquor Store, but are still looking for two other people.

The 17-year-old appeared before the Whanga¯rei District Court on Wednesday charged with aggravated robbery, while efforts to identify two more offenders continued.

Two men armed with a rifle and a machete entered the store at about 8.15pm on September 10, making off with alcohol, cigarettes and cash. Their faces were covered, but police hoped someone would recognise one offender’s backpack or rolled-up baggy orange-brown trousers (as pictured).

Police are also looking for the getaway driver.

Last week Constable Dave Brothers thanked the public for their help in identifying one of the alleged offenders, and urged anyone with information who had not yet been spoken to to call the Kaikohe police station on (09) 405-2960, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 800 555-111.
