It is the time of year that people start looking ahead to 2018 and what might be available for personal and professional development. With the strength of the horticultural sector currently, there are increasing opportunities to take advantage of within the sector but also elsewhere in the agri-food sector. An increasing number of participants from the horticultural sector have undertaken the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme, especially with the introduction of two course options - Jan and June. Some Kelloggers have previously done the shorter and sector focused Horticulture NZ leadership course and have enjoyed expanding their horizons to greater understanding of the wider New Zealand agri food sector and leadership challenges and opportunities.

Horticulture NZ and Zespri are programme partners and both use the opportunity to provide a place on the course each year for an emerging leader from the sector. Zespri has just opened applications for the 2018 courses. The programme, which can be managed while working full time, involves 17 days of programme content delivered over three residential blocks in an interactive environment includes presentations, discussions, case studies and debates. The leadership skills and tools provided by specialists are practiced and grown over the 6 month programme.

Some great projects which provide a platform for leading discussion and debate have come from hort sector Kellogg graduates with some recent projects;
