After a long wait full of anticipation, Alesha BillbroughCollins has opened BearLion Foods in New Brighton. You might recognise BearLion from its steadfast presence at the Christchurch Farmers’ Market. Don’t worry, it will stay at the market despite its swanky new beach outlet. BearLion is what Alesha calls ‘‘a real food company’’, the idea being to steer away from refined sugar and flour, ‘‘numbers’’ and heavily processed food. Alesha is a chef of 16 years’ experience and she works real wonders making healthy food taste delicious! It’s all about the flavours, not how many preservatives you can cram in. So, the nitty gritty? BearLion opens this week and will be open every week, Thursday-Saturday, 8.30am-2.30pm. It provides deli food to eat now or to take away for eating later as well as making into stuff to eat later. Pop in to really get what’s going on – well worth it. Tin Plate is another new joint selling pizza, pasta and piadas (flatbreads) with a loose Italian theme. Find Run 77 and Tin Plate in the Lake Tekapo township.
