A funeral service for the war hero pilot who died fighting the Christchurch’s Port Hills fires will be held on Monday.
Steve Askin, 37, died on Tuesday when the helicopter he was piloting crashed near the Sugarloaf. He is survived by his wife and two children.
The service will be held in the Christchurch suburb of Wigram on Monday, a friend of the family has told NZME. A Givealittle page set up to help his family has received overwhelming support. By yesterday evening almost $100,000 had been raised.
